Original Bone Thugs-N-Harmony member Flesh-N-Bone got picked up on gun possession charges on Thursday (April 2) in Santa Clarita, CA according to TMZ.

The Cleveland, OH rapper (born Stantley Howse) is reportedly behind bars after authorities found a firearm inside his vehicle. He is being held without bail and is expected to appear in court on Monday.

F-N-B has a history of gun charges. In 2000 he was sentenced to 12 years in Pleasant Valley State prison for assault with an AK-47 rifle. He served close to 8 years and was released in July of ’08.

Oh boy! Here she goes again! Beyonce and her dad stood by and watched as Kelly Rowland lost her Miami condo, failed with both her albums and now gets dropped from Columbia Records. How f*cked up is that?
I understand that Matthew would be pissed that his own daughter(Kelly) would fire him as a manager, but to have her dropped from her label? Is it not enough that everytime Kelly attempted to drop a record Beyonce conveniently dropped one too? Or that each time there was an Award show where Beyonce was performing Kelly could only be in the audience cheering her on? Or how can we forget that other performance where Beyonce performed and tore it down and then introduced Kelly AFTER to sing some new single she had? The crowd went from WOW!!! to woah!!! That was so messy i felt like throwing on some plastic pants and doing some background moves myself just to hype up her crowd!LOL!(yall know i’m joking bout the plastic). But Matthew has been unfair to Kelly from the gate in regards to her career. I guess this is his way of winning favor with Tina Knowles for having this out of wedlock child so long ago? And even convincing Tina to allow his lovechild from another to move into the Knowles abode? And bringing this memory of infidelity into Golden Child Beyonce’s Girl Group? Next time just jerk off in the mirror Matthew because you’re ruining lives AND careers!

The saddest part of it all is that Kelly can actually hum better than Beyonce!

In light of the recent excitement surrounding Miss Jones’ blog, I want to express my thoughts on this situation. Global Grind was created to fill a void in the hip-hop space, where artists, fans and foes could speak their mind openly and freely. As a yogi, you all know that I feel that most people are interested in a better view of the world, so I will always encourage positivity. That is the reason why we promote people like Brother Jesse Muhammad, from the Nation Of Islam, who might have not had the chance to write on other sites, and who has become a star blogger on GG. THAT IS WHY ASHLE DUPRE FOUND A VOICE HERE. That is what makes us unique and different. However, I PASSIONATELY believe that all artists MUST have the freedom to speak what’s on their minds, so we welcome Miss Jones to the GG community. If I had to make an educated assesment, since I know Matthew so well, I would say that Matthew Knowles has been an EXCELLENT FATHER AND A GREAT MANAGER. Tiffany Friday found this lowlife having a free-for-all in her crib, and that’s when she called up her most dependable girlfriends to help her chase this cat and, boooy did they ever put hands on him when the found him:
A burglary suspect may have picked the wrong South Fairmont home to break into Thursday. Police said Lonnie Lane was burglarizing 1630 Waverly Ave. when the woman living in the home discovered him. The police report stated that 29-year-old Tiffany Friday chased Lane, 30, tackled him and held him down until police arrived.

Friday said she came home to find Lane and another man in her home. Since her home had been burglarized before, Friday said she knew where the men would come out of her house — the back. “I was mad. I mean, they had took, taken everything from us. I mean, they took my daughter’s games, my son’s games, they took TVs, computers,” said Friday. Friday said she chased the men from her home, through her backyard and into the woods. She then ran back home, got into her friends’ car, and told them how to get to the other side of the woods.

When they arrived, Friday said, Lane was just coming out of the woods. When he recognized her, Friday said, he threw a brick at the car. “I got hit with sticks, stems, anything they could pick up, they was just throwing at me to keep me off of ‘em. But, I kept runnin’, I was not gonna stop,” said Friday. Friday said she and her friends piled out of the car and grabbed Lane. “I grabbed him by the back of his shirt and I hit him in the woods. And as I went to go for the other one, he grabbed the rest of the stuff that the guy dropped and he got away. I said, ‘OK, you can get away, but this one right here, he’s not goin’ nowhere,’” said Friday. While the report did not detail if Friday assaulted Lane, it did note that “injuries to arrested occurred prior to police contact.” (emphasis theirs)
Friday said she and her friends did hit Lane. “That was all of our work,” she said. Lane is being held on $25,000 bond for one count of burglary. The other man Friday said was in her home has not been identified.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Several people were killed Friday when a gunman walked into an immigrant services center and opened fire, Gov. David Paterson said.

"I speak for all of New York when I offer my prayers for the victims and families of this tragedy," Paterson said hours after the gunman shot several people and took dozens hostage.

NBC's Pete Williams cited city and state officials as saying that as many 13 people might have been killed. But Williams cautioned that the information was very preliminary and may change by because police were still searching the building.

At least 41 people were in the American Civic Association building at the time of the shooting, The Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin reported.

The gunman had a high-powered rifle, Mayor Matthew Ryan told the newspaper. Law enforcement sources later told NBC News that several weapons were recovered from the shooting scene.

The suspect was described as a man in his 20s between 5 feet, 8 inches, and 6 feet tall, wearing a bright green nylon jacket and dark-rimmed glasses.

Police locked down a nearby high school and advised local business owners to stay inside.

Rich Griffith, who works across the street from the hostage scene, said he saw three people carried out of the building on stretchers alive.

At least six hospitalized
Five people with gunshot wounds were being treated at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, according to hospital spokeswoman Christina Boyd.

The wounded ranged in age from 20 to their mid-50s, and their conditions ranged from stable to critical, she said.

Linda Miller, a spokeswoman at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, confirmed that a student from Binghamton University was being treated in the emergency room.

Around 1 p.m. ET, Pennie Kerber, 72, told the AP in a phone call from her home across the street that the scene appeared to be settling down.

"The cops are all standing around in the front now. They're still all over the roof for sure," she said. "The SWAT shooters that were to the side of the building look like they're not there anymore."

Man Arrested For Stalking Jamie Foxx

From BallerStatus.com -- Police arrested a man late last month for trying to force his way to the hotel room of actor Jamie Foxx in Phildelphia.

According to TMZ, Foxx was staying at the AKA Hotel in Philly on March 22nd, when he had to physically struggle to remove a 49-year-old William Brown from his room, after he tricked him into thinking he was Beyonce's producer.

After pushing him out, Foxx called security.

Nine days later on Tuesday (Mach 31), Brown was spotted near Foxx's hotel again. This time police were called in and he was subsequently arrested.

He was arrested and charged with stalking, burglary, criminal threats, and other charges, according to reports.

Brown is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail, pending a hearing April 7. It's not clear if he has an attorney.

Actor Jamie Foxx has since has returned to Los Angeles after wrapping up filming in Philadelphia this week on the movie "Law Abiding Citizen."

WTF?? Mom drugged 13-year-old daughter so she’d get pregnant

UNIONTOWN, Pa. - A western Pennsylvania mother has been charged with giving her 13-year-old daughter drugs and alcohol so the woman’s boyfriend could get the girl pregnant, police said Thursday.

Shana Brown, 32, is no longer able to have children but wanted to have a baby with her current boyfriend, Duane Calloway, said Uniontown Police Det. Donald Gmitter. The pair decided to drug the girl so Calloway, 40, could have sex with her without her knowledge, he added.

"There’s some sick people on this case," Gmitter said.

Brown has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and was to turn herself into police later Thursday, Gmitter said. Brown’s attorney did not immediately return a call for comment.

Calloway faces several counts of attempted rape. He was arrested Wednesday and remains in Fayette County Jail. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney

The three incidents occurred in Brown’s home in Uniontown, about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh, according to the criminal complaint.

The girl told police the plot was apparently hatched sometime in December after she rejected her mother’s proposal that she allow Calloway to impregnate her and then marry him.

In the following months, Calloway attempted to rape the girl three times, Gmitter said.

The first time, in February, the girl was alone with Calloway while her mother went out to buy pizza, according to the criminal complaint. Calloway began groping her and she kicked him away, the documents stated.

A few weeks later, the girl believes her mother spiked her Pepsi with rum, according to police. The girl told them she felt ill after drinking the Pepsi, passed out and later threw up. She was also partially naked when she woke up and Calloway was in the room, according to the criminal complaint.

The third incident occurred in mid-March, when the girl told police she came home early from school because she was not feeling well. She said her mother forced her to drink tea, and then she immediately fell asleep.

The girl said she pretended she was asleep until Calloway made a move, at which point she bolted upright and he left the room.

In a search of the Brown residence, police said they found an empty rum bottle, Tylenol PM and a pill crusher.

Last week, during our series focusing on the music and the scene in Atlanta, MTV News' Shaheem Reid wrote a blog observing the fifth anniversary of the release of Usher's landmark, multimillion-selling Confessions album, about which he said: "Listening to the music, on which Ush sang about everything in his relationship, I knew I would hear — hell, the world would hear — something different this time. He was already a star, but with this joint, you had the feeling it was going to be different. Usher would be talking about realer things that older cats could also relate to."

Five years on, Usher himself had five things to say about Confessions, which he e-mailed to us yesterday. Take it away, Ush ...

1. Confessions stands today to be one of my greatest pieces of work ever. It was a product of my environment and one of the most conflicted times in my life. However, pressure makes diamonds!

2. No one knows that "Yeah!" almost didn't make the album. Lil Jon produced "Yeah!," and once we finished the record we did a little research on the record only to find out that "Freek-A-Leek" by Petey Pablo had the same beat. At times I wonder if it would have made a difference if the beat was never changed. Nobody knew it was going to be that huge of a record.

3. I didn't have a baby with another woman [a situation depicted in the album's title track], although a lot of people thought that was the case when they listened to the album for the first time. That song was not personally about me.

4. As a matter of fact, I'm still looking for the woman that I supposedly got pregnant. LOL!!! It's funny because that really caused so much controversy ... It was just a song!

5. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't change anything about Confessions. The anniversary comes just in time for the new album. I got a new story to tell. A new dawn, a new day, and I'm feeling good. Be ready!

Bonus fact: Not many people know that Stevie Wonder played keys on Confessions.

Feds Make Coke Bust at Bronx Pizzeria: Pizza parlor delivering calzones and....Cocaine

"I'll have a large pie, half-pepperoni, half-cocaine."

A Bronx pizza parlor that delivered drugs as well as calzones was busted and six people - including the store's manager - were arrested, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency said Wednesday.

Investigators charged that John's Pizza on Westchester Ave. employed its delivery men as drug couriers and used the supply of cocaine inside the pizzeria to ferry narcotics shipments throughout the city.

"Using their pizza shop as a front for drug trafficking, the dough that this organization made was not from the sale of pizza but rather illegal narcotics," said DEA Special Agent-In-Charge John Gilbride.

"Through concentrated law enforcement efforts this organization's brick ovens have been shut down," Gilbride said.

Federal agents used a wiretap to conduct a 10-month probe into the Parkchester pizzeria and determined that its manager, Benigno Burgos, moved drugs worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from the unassuming storefront with a red-and-green awning.

Some customers traveled from as far as Connecticut to pick up their take-out orders - which were actually pizza boxes stuffed with up to $40,000 of cocaine at a time, officials said.

Agents raided John's and four nearby drug supply houses Tuesday and discovered nine kilograms of cocaine, four handguns and approximately $20,000 in cash, officials said.

At Burgos' home on Taylor Ave., investigators found nine kilograms of cocaine hidden under a child's mattress, officials said.

Burgos and Victor Gomez, his alleged partner in the scheme, were nabbed along with four drug couriers, officials said. Three of the drug ring's customers were arrested last year, officials said.

Investigators from the NYPD, Port Authority and Special Narcotics Prosecutor's Office assisted in the takedown, officials said.

R&B Songstress Keri Hilson released her debut album, "In A Perfect World..." last week. Keri Hilson had a phenomenal debut on Soundscan charts selling 94, 497 copies.

Unfortunately, inside sources have confirmed to us that Keri's album was undershipped. Sources tell us that the label only shipped 120,000 copies meaning alot of retail stores didn't have copies of the album. SMH

This weeks Soundscan Numbers shine a little light on the Current State of the Music Industry. Jim Jones' fourth solo album, Pray IV Reign sold 42,982 copies in its first week. Slim Thug's second solo album, Boss of All Bosses, sold 32, 721 copies in its first week.

Jim Jones is signed to major record label, Columbia Records while Slim Thug is signed to independent label, Koch Records. The marketing dollars for Jim Jones album, certainly exceeded the budget of Slim Thug's project. However, Jim Jones only sold just about 10,000 more copies than Slim thug did. This raises some very serious questions:

1. Are major labels almost on their way out?
2. Is it financially smarter to sign with an Independent Label?
3. Does it make sense in this day and age spending millions of marketing dollars on a project?

Man Dies Trying To Catch Suicidal Girlfriend As She Jumps From 7th Floor

A Chinese man was killed last night after trying to catch his suicidal girlfriend as she jumped from the seventh floor of their Quanzhou apartment building in south-eastern China.

The young man, only identified as Wang, tried to break the woman’s fall by holding out his arms, witnesses said. He was killed by the impact of her body landing on top of him, according to Perth Now.

His girlfriend survived the fall, suffering only from bone fractures and other injuries. She was not in critical condition and expected to make a full recovery.

The couple had quarreled before Wang went to the street below to try and persuade his girlfriend not to jump. It was unclear if she plummeted from a ledge or out of a window.

Hospital staffers say the woman appears confused and doesn’t know how she fell.

Monsters Vs. Aliens fought it out at the box office this weekend, destroying everything else in its wake. The DreamWorks animated comedy took in an estimated $58.2 million, not only making it the number one film, but also the top grossing weekend earner of the year. DreamWorks first foray into 3D animation certainly paid off. And we might just be looking at their next big CGI franchise.

Opening in second place was Peter Cornwell's scary The Haunting in Connecticut, which took in a surprising $23 million. No one expected this ghostly tale to perform so well, which only prove that cheap thrills never go out of style. Speaking of which, Nicolas Cage's doomsday epic Knowing got knocked into third place in its second week of release. Taking in another $14.7 million, the film has earned an estimated cumulative gross of $46.2 million.

This week's only other big release was the John Cena action extravaganza 12 Rounds. It debuted in the number seven spot with just $5.3 million. Hopefully, it will do better on the home video market. Because what this world certainly needs is more John Cena movies! The film with the highest per screen average for the second week in a row was Valentino: The Last Emperor. It took in another $30,000 playing on just two screens. So far, the film has earned $88,400.

Next week, the Monsters and the Aliens will have to stop fighting each other if they want to conquer the box office again for the second week in a row. They will be going up against Vin Diesel and Paul Walker in Fast & Furious and Greg Mottola's coming of age comedy Adventureland.

Rapper Andre 3000 Arrested For Driving Porshe 109 MPH

Revered Atlanta rapper Andre 3000 was arrested outside of Atlanta on Saturday (March 28), for driving his 2007 Porsche Carrera at speeds so excessive police called him “an accident waiting to happen.”

According to a report by local ABC-affiliate WSB-TV Monday afternoon (March 30), the Grammy Award winning rapper/actor was arrested by a member of the Henry County Police Department’s Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic Team early Saturday morning.

The officer stated that he clocked Andre 3000, born Andre Benjamin, at 109 mph, 44 mph over the 65 mph speed limit along that stretch of I-75.

Benjamin was arrested for the danger he posed to other drivers.

“Traveling that fast along 75, you’re passing people as if they’re standing still,” explained Henry County Police Captain Jason Bolton. “It’s an accident waiting to happen.”

The arrest comes as State Representative Jim Cole is lobbying for a new Super Speeder Bill to be passed in the state of Georgia.

The law would impose an additional $200 fine for any driver stopped for driving at more than 85 miles an hour on highways and four-lane roads. Georgia Governor Sonny Purdue has indicated his support of the bill, which he intends to sign into law before summer.

Representative Cole stated that he hopes Benjamin will lend his support to the cause.

“He might be willing to help us market it,” Cole told WSB-TV.

The Outkast co-founder was released after posting an unspecified bond amount.

He is scheduled to appear in court to face charges associated with the incident on April 29.

At press time, representatives for Andre 3000 could not be reached for comment.

On Sunday (March 29), Benjamin wrapped up a live revival of his award-winning cartoon “Class of 3000,” which made a comeback as a stage play earlier this month.

The play, based on the short-live Cartoon Network Series’ pilot episode, “Life Without Music,” was presented for a month-long run as a partnership between Andre 3000 and the Alliance Theater in Atlanta.

According to Andre, who hopes to bring the play to schools around the country, he wanted to create an experience that would encourage kids to explore music beyond what is offered by the mainstream.

"I wanted to make sure it wasn't the teenybopper, kiddie sounds or stupid songs," he told the Associated Press. "I wanted to introduce them to different styles of music I was introduced to. From funk to jazz to calypso music, just to let them know there's a base from what they are hearing now."

Despite great critical acclaim and a 2007 Emmy Award for Individual Achievement in Animation, “Class of 3000” was cancelled in early 2008.

The decision to bring the show to live came shortly there after, at the request of the Alliance Theater’s director Rosemary Newcott, who told the Associate Press it was a “no-brainer” because of Benjamin’s impact through the show.

"The whole spirit of this show is infused with him, with his sense of humor and his love for music," she raved. "That's a valuable trait that draws people in."

In a blog entry posted at GlobalGrind.com, Ciara explained by the month of March is so important to her.

"I wanted to remind everyone that it's still Women's History Month," she wrote. “Former Destiny’s Child star KELLY ROWLAND has reportedly been dropped by her record label, just two months after firing her manager, former band-mate Beyonce Knowles' dad.

Despite the fact her first two solo albums sold more than four million copies, British tabloid News of The World reports the Dilemma singer has been dumped by bosses at Columbia, because they fear she is "no longer commercially viable".

Rowland shot to fame in Destiny's Child in 1997 and released her first solo album, Simply Deep, in 2002. The album sold over three million copies worldwide.

The 28 year old started 2009 by splitting from longtime manager Mathew Knowles, who said, "After a very positive meeting between Kelly Rowland and myself, we have amicably agreed to end our professional relationship.

"My company, Music World, will continue to manage Destiny's Child as a group. As an artist Kelly has incredible talent and I only wish her the best. We will always be family first and foremost, and, as a dad, I only have love for Kelly."

Prodigy Sues Vox Music Group For Contract Breach, Rapper's Family Facing Foreclosure

Mobb Deep rapper and G-Unit affiliate Prodigy is suing Vox Music Group for allegedly failing to pay him more than $30,000 and plunging his family into foreclosure.

Prodigy says Vox Music Group agreed in August 2007 to pay him $10,300 a month but that it has missed three payments and failed to give him a semiannual royalty accounting statement.

"These breaches . . . have put Prodigy's family in financial peril," say documents filed last week in Manhattan Supreme Court.

Prodigy, who suffers from sickle-cell anemia and is serving a 3½-year term for gun possession, is also asking that the agreement be terminated.

Suicide Bomber Blows Up His Own Going Away Party

A would-be suicide bomber accidentally blew himself up on Thursday, killing six other militants as he was bidding them farewell to leave for his intended target, the Interior Ministry said.
"The terrorist was on his way to his destination and saying good-bye to his associates and then his suicide vest exploded," a statement from the ministry said.

Taliban-led attacks in Afghanistan have escalated in the past year with suicide and roadside bombings insurgents' weapons of choice.

The incident happened in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan where mainly British troops are struggling against a growing Taliban-led insurgency.

Vince Shlomi was arrested in Miami Beach last month after cops say he allegedly hired a hooker, whom he took back to his hotel. According to the arrest affidavit, obtained by The Smoking Gun, Shlomi began kissing the hooker when she allegedly "bit his tongue and would not let go."

According to cops, Shlomi then punched the prostitute several times until she released his tongue. Both the prostitute and Shlomi were arrested for felony aggravated battery.

On Thursday night, Hilton approached the DJ booth at LIV nightclub in the Fontainebleau hotel, Miami Beach, to request a song for her, personally, to dance to. A bodyguard thought that Paris was a little too close for comfort, and pushed her away, at which point her valiant knight in shining armor (her new bf) came to her rescue.

Which only led to boyfriend Doug Reinhardt engaging in a brawl with the bodyguard.

"I can't believe someone would do this to us, it's really scary," says Hilton, of last night's incident.

Police were called, but no charges were filed.

''Shooting Our Satellite For Peaceful Purposes Will Precisely Mean A War'' Korea Puts Troops on Alert, Warns of War Danger

North Korea put its troops on alert and cut the last hot line to Seoul on Monday as the American and South Korean militaries began joint maneuvers. The communist regime warned that even the slightest provocation could trigger war.
The North stressed that provocation would include any attempt to interfere with its impending launch of a satellite into orbit. U.S. and Japanese officials suspect the launch is a cover for a test of a long-range attack missile and have suggested they might move to intercept the rocket.

''Shooting our satellite for peaceful purposes will precisely mean a war,'' North Korea's military threatened in a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency. Any interception attempt will draw ''a just, retaliatory strike,'' it said. Meaning it would attack the United States, Japan and South Korea.

North Korea says it plans to send a satellite into orbit, but neighboring governments believe it will be testing its Taepodong-2 missile, which theoretically can reach as far as Hawaii and Alaska.

The North has been on a steady retreat from reconciliation since President Lee Myung-bak took office in the South a year ago. After Lee said the North must continue dismantling its nuclear program if it wants aid, Pyongyang cut ties, suspended joint projects and stepped up its belligerence rhetoric.

''The danger of a military conflict is further increasing than ever before on the Korean Peninsula because of the saber rattling which involves armed forces huge enough to fight a war,'' the North's news agency warned as Pyongyang put its armed forces on standby for combat.

Allied commanders say the exercises are nothing more than the annual drills the two nations have held for years, while the North has been condemning them as a rehearsal for invasion.

Analysts say North Korea's heated words are designed to grab President Barack Obama's attention. With South Korea cutting off aid, the impoverished North is angling for a diplomatic coup of establishing direct ties with the U.S., analysts say.

For weeks, the North has said it is forging ahead with plans to send a communications satellite into space -- a launch that U.S. and Japanese officials say would violate a U.N. Security Council resolution banning the North from testing ballistic missiles. That decree came after the North test-fired a long-range missile and conducted an underground nuclear weapon test in 2006.

Analysts say the launch could occur late this month or in early April.

North and South Korea technically remain in a state of war since their 1950-53 conflict ended in a cease-fire, not a peace treaty. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers are massed on each side of the DMZ.

The United States, which has about 28,000 military personnel in South Korea, routinely holds joint military exercises with the South.

Last week, the North threatened danger to South Korean passenger planes flying near its airspace if the maneuvers went ahead, and several airlines rerouted their flights as a precaution.

Bow Wow Celebrates 22nd B-Day In Vegas, Preps Sixth Album

Rapper Bow Wow turned 22 years old on Sunday (March 8), and the young rapper took to Sin City to celebrate.

According to Bossip.com, Bow Wow partied the night away at the MGM Grand's Studio 54 nightclub with Jermaine Dupri in tow. During the evening, a cake was even present, so he may blow out the candles.

In addition to turning 21, the rapper is also gearing up for the release of yet another album. The new album is titled New Jack City II, his sixth solo album.

The first single is a track titled "You Can Get It All," a radio-friendly effort much different from his recently released mixtape Half Man Half Dog 2, which he says was released to display his skills on the mic.

"For me, it was something that had just really been embedded in me," Bow Wow told MTV's Mixtape Mondays. "A lot of people don't know that I was discovered by Snoop and [Dr.] Dre. Snoop was such an influence on me. It's always been in my blood to rap."

"When I got with [Jermaine Dupri], JD cleaned me up a little bit and did the right thing," he said. "That's the reason why I'm here right now. But it's always been in me to rap. I use the mixtape thing for fun."

However, despite all the criticism Bow Wow has received over the years, whether it's about his poppy music or over his rapping skills, the kid knows how to succeed. He was the youngest rapper to ever hit no. 1 on the charts, as well as headline seven different tours.

"You'll look at somebody who has one album, might have come out and sold 30,000 records, but he has the No .1 rap single," he said. "But you think he's better than me? No way. The stats don't lie. Raised in Brooklyn, New York, Wallace grew up during the peak years of the 1980s' crack epidemic and started dealing drugs at an early age. When Wallace released his debut album with the 1994 record Ready to Die, he was a central figure in the East Coast hip-hop scene and increased New York's visibility at a time when hip hop was mostly dominated by West Coast artists. 'Watchmen' conquers box office with $55.7 million

"Watchmen" clocked in with $55.7 million in ticket sales to claim the top spot at the box office, making director Zack Snyder's comic book adaptation about a team of twisted superheros the biggest opening of 2009 so far.

Still, it was not quite as big as the $70 million take of Snyder's "300" in 2007.

Dan Fellman, head of distribution for "Watchmen" studio Warner Bros., said it was unfair to compare the two films.

"They're two different movies," Fellman said Sunday. "This is a movie that runs two hours and 45 minutes. That really only leaves the exhibitor with one showing a night. If you have an 8 o'clock show, the next show is at midnight. So with essentially one show a night, I think this is outstanding."

Fans of the subversive comic book series by writer Alan Moore and illustrator Dave Gibbons waited years for Snyder's big-screen version. The anticipation was complicated last year when Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox fought over who owned rights to the $125 million film. The studios eventually settled in January, keeping the March 6 opening intact.

Many "Watchmen" enthusiasts raced to IMAX theaters to see the exploits of Dr. Manhattan and company on the bigger screens. Greg Foster, chairman and president of IMAX Filmed Entertainment, said the movie sold out on all 124 IMAX screens it was playing on during the weekend and was the second largest opening in company history behind another superhero film, 2008's "The Dark Knight."

With no other new releases to compete against, "Watchmen" easily bumped off "Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail," which had held the top spot the two previous weekends. The Lionsgate comedy took in $8.8 million, good for second place, according to studio estimates Sunday. 20th Century Fox's "Taken," starring Liam Neeson, took the No. 3 position with $7.5 million.

For the year, movie attendance continues to soar, with revenue at $1.9 billion, up 16 percent through the same point in 2008. Even factoring in 2009's higher ticket prices, movie attendance is running 14 percent higher than last year.

Disney's "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience" dropped from No. 2 to No. 9 at the box office.

"There have been some casualties this year," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box office tracker Media By Numbers. "Not every film can be a hit — even during this box-office bonanza we're having right now. It dropped about 78 percent the second weekend. It's a young audience. The ones that wanted to see the Jonas Brothers came out last weekend."

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.

Starting with a December 2008 release, Jadakiss' Def Jam debut The Last Kiss has been moved several times to its most recent date, April 7. Speaking with HipHopDX last night, Jadakiss revealed that he's used this time to update what critics first heard in listening sessions. "I just did some more songs, 'cause more time went by. Hov told me to do two more songs too." Jada said that he took some guidance from Jay-Z "I don't know why [he requested two], but that was just his lucky number. I did three though anyway, [one] with Pharrell, one with Swizz [Beatz], and a joint that he gave me with Mary [J Blige] with [DJ Khaled] and The Inkcredibles."

Looking at the album as it stands, 'Kiss was asked if "What It?" would still be placed. "Hell yeah! That's gonna be one of the power-boosters of the album," he said of the concept-record produced by North Carolina's Chophouse. "It's always a [concept record with me]. Asking 'What if?,' the things I'm asking are some crazy -- not too crazy, but just some shit that you might ask yourself, 'What if?'" Contrary to what was initially heard, Jadakiss then revealed a special guest, "I brought [in Nas] at the end, the icing on the cake."

The Yonkers emcee was overall optimistic to DX about the year ahead, "It should be a strong year; I feel real good about [Hip Hop in 2009]. But everybody don't think like me." Universal Music wins Eminem song royalty lawsuit

A federal jury in Los Angeles ruled Friday that Eminem's music royalties don't change just because a song has been sold online.

The decision prevents, at least for now, an upending of the music industry that could have greatly changed the financial relationship between record labels and artists, in which labels have long commanded most of the proceeds from album sales.

The Detroit music producers who were involved in the rapper's early works, including his 1999 Grammy-winning album, "The Slim Shady LP," sued Universal Music Group's Interscope Records, accusing the music label of shortchanging them on royalty payments for music downloads and cellphone ring tones

Mark and Jeff Bass, brothers who own F.B.T. Productions, said their contract entitled them to 50% of the proceeds for songs sold through online stores including Apple Inc.'s iTunes or by cellphone operators such as Sprint.

They argued that the songs Universal provided to online and mobile services amounted to music "masters," from which infinite digital copies could be produced. As such, F.B.T. said it was entitled to a higher royalty rate than the 12% they would otherwise receive on the sale of a song or music CD.

The jury sided with the music company's interpretation that a song purchased online is no different from one bought in a store.

"It's saying that the digital download is the modern version of a record sale," said music attorney Fred Davis, founder of law firm Davis, Shapiro, Lewit, Montone & Hayes in New York, who was not involved in the lawsuit. "And the economics to the artist are the same for a digital download as they were for the sale of a single, back in the glory years."

Davis said the ruling would have had enormous implications if it had favored the Bass brothers, because it would have forced an already struggling music industry to share a much higher percentage of proceeds from sales with artists.

Although federal district court rulings do not establish a legal precedent, they can influence judges weighing similar disputes. Eminem was not a party to the suit.

Richard S. Busch, an attorney representing the Basses, said his clients were considering their legal options.

"We are very surprised by the jury's verdict," Busch said. "We don't understand it, and the fight's not over."

A Universal Music spokesman hailed the decision, saying, "We are pleased with the jury's verdict."

GA Drug Charges Against Lil Wayne Dropped

Georgia Superior Court Judge Michael Johnson has exonerated Lil Wayne of felony drug charges stemming from a 2006 arrest in Atlanta.Wayne (Dwayne Carter) was arrested in August 2006 at the Twelve Hotel.

A police search allegedly revealed unnamed bottles holding the drugs hydrocodone and Xanas.Also, the officers retrieved an undisclosed amount of marijuana.

In October 2007, New Orleans emcee was arrested per a fugitive warrant for skipping a scheduled Fulton County court date.Yesterday (March 3), Wayne’s attorney William Head successfully argued that the search was illegal, and that his client was not present in the room, nor was it registered to him when the arrest was decreed.

Regarding the missed court date, the judge deemed Wayne’s excuse appropriate.According to Head, his client missed the date because the summons was mailed to his New Orleans residence, which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

Wayne next court appearance will be in New York on April 20, where he faces the charge of criminal possession of a loaded weapon.Similar to the dismissed Georgia charges, the Hip-Hop superstar was arrested after a police search of his tour bus revealed the weapon.

The boaters were supposed to return after dark but never did.At 1:30 this morning, the Coast Guard received a call from a friend saying that the boaters were overdue. The Coast Guard said the third boater was Nick Skyler and did not identify the fourth person.

Coolio reportedly had his jewlery and other valuables snatched when he attempted to stage dive during a performance at a British University earlier this week.According to Contact Music, Coolio was performing at Staffordshire University on Wednesday (February 25) and the rappper decided to jump into the crowd but the audience parted and he landed on the floor.

While on the floor, the crowd mobbed Coolio and snatched his jewellery, bandana and shoes before he was rescued by the venue's security teams."(He) nearly flattened one poor girl then all the students decided to launch on him," said James Fielden, a bartender who witnessed the incident. "They grabbed whatever they could, including his trainers, watch, chains and glasses. He was pulled back on stage by the bouncers. They got his shoes back for him."

The National Basketball Association (NBA) will borrow 175 million dollars to serve as aid to teams that might struggle in the weak global economy, Sports Business Journal reported Thursday. The report said the presumption is teams would use the funds to cover operating losses and that while the league was not looking to borrow, Bank of America and JPMorgan came to the NBA several weeks ago with the opportunity.Half of the league's 30 teams agreed there was a need to go through with the borrowing, according to the report, which said the money will supplement a 1.7 billion-dollar credit facility that uses the NBA's broadcast contracts as loan collateral.The deal comes with interest rates up to 8.27 percent and each of the 15 teams that wanted to borrow could take a maximum of 11.66 million dollars from the debt proceeds, according to the Journal."In this economic environment, it's tremendous that the league can place such a facility," Orlando Magic chief operating officer Alex Martins told the Journal."It certainly helps us bridge the time period between now and when we move into our new events center in 2010. We've been operating at a 15 (million) to 20 million (dollar annual) loss over the past half-dozen years so it helps us."The Sacramento Kings are another likely candidate to dip into the loan funds after reports earlier this month said the California club could lose as much as 25 million dollars this season.

A New Orleans judge refused to throw C-Murder in jail today (February 27) at the request of prosecutors who claimed that the rapper had repeatedly violated his house arrest.C-Murder, born Corey Miller is accused of killing sixteen year old Steve Thomas in 2002 during a brawl at the defunct Platinum Club in Louisiana.The rapper has been under house arrest since he was released on $500,000 bond in 2006 after his murder conviction was overturned and he was granted a new trial.Prosecutors in the case have repeatedly tried to put C-Murder in jail and in their recent attempt Friday claimed that the rapper broke his house arrest rules by straying away from his electronic monitor equipment for several minutes, according to The Times Picayune.C-Murder testified in court today that he had never left his home. The rapper's aunt, Joyce Marie Miller, also testified that he never left his home and that the equipment appeared to malfunction at times.Mike Dawson, C-Murder's house-arrest officer, claimed that the monitoring equipment worked properly.Judge Hans Liljeberg denied the prosecutors request to jail C-Murder saying that he wasn't "100-percent convinced" that the rapper violated house arrest rules.C-Murder's re-trial on second degree murder charges is scheduled to begin on April 20th

Damn...Nearly three weeks after making headlines for a dispute that turned violent, Rihanna and Chris Brown have worked out their differences and are back together.According to People Magazine, the superstar couple are currently hanging out at one of Diddy’s homes."They're together again. They care for each other," a source told People. "While Chris is reflective and saddened about what happened, he is really happy to be with the woman he loves."Brown surrendered himself to authorities following the February 8th incident and was charged with one count of making felony criminal threats and released on bail.The singer released a statement apologizing for the incident a few days later.Prosecutors are currently trying to build a domestic violence case against Brown. Rihanna has not pressed any charges against Brown. They need to work it out and get on with they carreers.
